The hike begins at the Schauinsland cable car mountain station. First you climb the Schauinsland tower (1281 m). Here you have a marvellous view of the Rhine Valley. Now continue to the solar observatory. From here, the trail leads south-west along the yellow rhombus to Gießhübel. From the Gießhübel inn, head west. After approx. 100 m, at the Gießhübel car park, descend through the Kaltwasser to the Eduardshöhe (859 m). Six paths meet at the Eduardshöhe. Follow the yellow rhombus in a westerly direction to the Berglusthaus (Schwarzwaldverein hiking centre open from 2 p.m. on Saturdays until 5 p.m. on Sundays and until 4 p.m. in summer in winter). After 300 metres, you walk through a small wooded area and then see the Berglusthaus in front of you. You have a wonderful view of the Rhine plain and the Vosges mountains. At the Berglusthaus, you have the opportunity to rest and enjoy the wonderful view. You then hike on towards Horben. Here, too, it is worth taking a look back. From the Eckwitti signpost, follow the blue rhombus again to the Gerstenhalm car park. At the Gerstenhalm car park, continue straight ahead on the yellow rhombus up to the Gerstenhalm, just before you enter the forest there is a beautiful view to the left down to the St. Ulrich monastery. The path now continues through the forest, just before the Gerstenhalm signpost you can enjoy the wonderful view of the Rhine Valley and Freiburg. At the Gerstenhalm signpost, our hiking trail continues northwards to the Stockhof signpost. Turn right here and walk to the Mainackerhof. From here, follow the blue rhombus trail past the Salpeterbuck via the bus route to Horben. There you leave the blue diamond and follow the yellow diamond to the right down to your destination, the Schauinslandbahn valley station (473 m).
